MAKE-UP AND BLEMISH-PRONE SKIN:
A LOVE-HATE RELATIONSHIP
What is the best make-up for acne-prone skin?
Over 90% of women suffer from complexion problems such as acne pimples, shine, blackhead and enlarged pores. Their first reflex? Turn to make-up to hide their acne, redness and marks. But some make-up can clog pores and actually make them much more visible. That’s why we’ve done this guide to creating a flawless complexion in spite of your oily to combination skin… No matter how sensitive it is.
YOUR GO-TO PRODUCT?
A MINERAL COMPACT FOUNDATION
To instantly even your complexion, conceal blemishes and eliminate shine, reach for a mineral compact foundation such as TOLERIANE Compact Powder from La Roche-Posay.
This type of concealer/foundation is ideal for even the most sensitive oily-to-combination complexions, performing multiple functions:
- Evens the complexion in a flash. All blemishes (spots, blackheads, redness, marks, etc.) are concealed.
- Mattifies for 12 hours. The skin is clean with no shine or stickiness.
- Lets the skin breathe and leaves it purified for an unrivalled feeling of freshness and comfort.
Oily-to-combination skin’s BFF concealer/foundation relies on 100% purified mineral pigments and super-absorbent perlite to cover, smooth and brighten the complexion without clogging pores. 90% of women saw an improvement in their skin’s appearance and texture and 60% of blemishes were reduced after a month’s use of TOLERIANE Compact Powder.
WHAT IF I PREFER
A LIQUID FOUNDATION?
Liquid foundation suitable for acne-prone skin
For women with very sensitive acne-prone skin, La Roche-Posay has created TOLERIANE Corrective Liquid Foundation. Its frictionless spreadable formula covers acne redness, spots, dark circles and marks without clogging pores and with no mask-like effect or cakey finish. It’s allergy-tested to make sure you won’t be left looking red-faced, and offers a respectable SPF 25.

The right make-up products and techniques for acne-prone skin
- Prepare skin by cleansing with EFFACLAR Cleansing Foaming Gel and applying a soothing cream like EFFACLAR Duo (+).
- If you prefer a compact, take a small amount of TOLERIANE Compact Powder onto the sponge and dab onto the centre of your face and T-zone, before blending outwards towards the periphery. That way you will have the most coverage where you need it (as pores are more dilated and blemish-prone in the centre of the face).
- For localised blemishes, fold the sponge in half for extra precision, take some extra product onto the sponge and pat directly over the blemish, gently blending outwards.
- For liquid foundation application: As with the mineral foundation, start by dabbing product onto the centre of your face and blend outwards for a seamless finish. You can use your fingers or a kabuki brush to spread the formula without creating streaks or friction. You can then layer the product to achieve the desired level of coverage.
- If you want an extra sheer option: Opt for an über-subtle tinted acne-prone skin tinted cream like EFFACLAR Duo (+) Unifiant. Take a hazelnut-sized amount of product onto your fingertips and smooth from the centre of your face outwards.

Dot the pen over the area to conceal and blend with your fingertip.
HOW DO I CHOOSE THE RIGHT
SHADE OF MAKE-UP?
Choosing the right shade of concealer or foundation can be challenging for women with blemish-prone skin because they have several different colours of skin on their face: Blemishes, redness, dark circles and normal skin. To choose the right foundation shade, look for a healthy area of skin on your jawline and test the product there. If it matches, you’re good to go.
HOW CAN I BE SURE MY MAKE-UP IS SAFE
FOR SENSITIVE SKIN?
The right make-up products and techniques for acne-prone skin
All La Roche-Posay make-up respects a strict formulation charter. Dermatologically formulated, it has been tested on sensitive to intolerant skin types. TOLERIANE Teint Mineral and Corrective Liquid Foundation won’t irritate even the most delicate skin. Non-comedogenic, they are ideal for blemish-prone skin and their hypoallergenic formulation is suitable for even allergic skin. The added bonus? Both formulas offer SPF 25 for daily UV protection.

So there you have it. With the right routine, blemish-prone skin can look flawless and selfie-ready in a flash… and progressively clearer with repeated use.
